About Us

Student-Athlete & Adult Performance Training (SAPT) is a comprehensive training company which focuses on improving athletic and intellectual success in youth, amateur, adult, and professional athletes.

While many  athletes spend ample time honing their technical and tactical sport specific skills, they often fail to acquire appropriate and adequate physical conditioning to support and promote their peak competitive performance. The certified staff of professionals at SAPT has carefully orchestrated sport and performance specific programs to address this challenge.

Each program is carefully researched and stands at the forefront of the strength and conditioning industry. Our programs are always original and never duplicated.

Sarah Walls, CES, CSCS, PES
President

Inspired by her experiences both as a NCAA D1 Strength & Conditioning Coach and a personal trainer, Coach Walls founded SAPT with the vision of providing the highest quality, individualized performance training services available. At the NCAA Division I, II, and III, NAIA, NCCAA and professional levels, Sarah has experience working with many sports including: baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, jumps, lacrosse, rowing, soccer, softball, sprints, tennis, throws, and volleyball. In addition, she has worked with athletes to help prepare them for competition in cycling, distance running, figure, judo, obstacle course, mixed martial arts, and triathlon.

Apart from athletic performance enhancement, Coach Walls has been working with all ages and abilities for over 10 years to help individuals achieve goals that include: weight loss, body composition changes, injury rehabilitation, success in daily living, and many others. Her written work can be found in the magazines Experience Life, M&F Hers, Volleyball Magazine, on Livestrong.com, www.elitefts.com, and in Sport Strength Newsletter.

Coach Walls specializes in injury prevention, nutritional counseling, and performance enhancement through focusing on increased speed, strength, and power. In addition to coaching at SAPT, she is also the Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coordinator at George Mason University where she is responsible for all aspects of the performance training programs for women’s basketball, golf, the jumps, lacrosse, rowing, women’s soccer, the sprints, the throws, and women’s volleyball.

Steve Reed, CSCS
Strength & Conditioning Coach

Coach Steve is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) holding a degree in Science of Exercise and Nutrition from Virginia Tech.  Originally pursuing a career in physical therapy, he realized the number of injuries seen in clinics could be drastically reduced if athletes received intelligent strength training and proper injury reduction strategies beforehand.  He first began his pursuit of helping athletes achieve healthy, high-performing bodies through volunteering with the Virginia Tech Strength and Conditioning staff, in which he assisted in training the Baseball, Wrestling, Swimming, and Softball teams.  Ever since, Steve has maintained an incessant desire to improve his services to athletes and non-athletes alike by continually researching the most effective ways to provide quality training, and gathering experience wherever possible.  Steve has helped a wide variety of people achieve goals in their respective occupations, including: NCAA Division I, II, and III athletes, professional bodybuilders, competitive powerlifters, and “average joe” men and women seeking to improve their bodies’ health and performance.  Steve also has experience working as a Physical Therapy Aide in both Northern Virginia and Blacksburg, through which he has been able to further his knowledge and practice of working with injuries and employing injury-reduction strategies.

Steve is currently training for competitive obstacle course races, utilizing principles of strength and running training to do so.  In his free time, he enjoys reading, sharing time with loved ones, and eating Ben and Jerry’s ice cream.

Ryan Wood, CSCS
Strength & Conditioning Coach

Ryan is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) holding a degree in Health and Physical Education from George Mason University.  Ryan’s path to becoming a strength and conditioning coach was paved through his love for teaching and passion for performance training.  After completing his health and PE teaching degree he began his pursuit to become a strength and conditioning coach.  He attained his CSCS and went on to become a graduate assistant with George Mason University’s strength and conditioning department.  While serving as the strength departments GA he assisted in training the Men’s Golf, Softball, Baseball, Women’s Basketball, Women’s Lacrosse, Sprinters and Jumpers, Women’s Soccer, Women’s Volleyball and Women’s Rowing.  Ryan intends to pursue continuing education and the garnering of practical experience to deliver the highest quality coaching and programming to SAPT clientele.  Currently Ryan is training to become a competitive powerlifter in the 181 weight class through reaching new PR’s within the sport.

Kelsey Reed, CSCS

Coach Kelsey is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a Precision Nutrition (PN) Certified Coach. Bitten by the iron bug at 16, Kelsey has been lifting ever since. Her love for picking up heavy things spurred her to pursue a degree in the Science of Exercise and Nutrition at Virginia Tech.  She interned with the Virginia Tech Strength and Conditioning staff assisting with training the wrestling, softball, men’s tennis and men’s soccer teams. While she was in college, she competed in bodybuilding and powerlifting. She earned her bodybuilding pro-card in 2008 and set two All-American powerlifting records in 2009.

Working at SAPT allows her to share the Iron Game with others and help them achieve their performance goals. She seeks out the latest research and training experiences to refine her coaching techniques.
